About Threefold Recital

All beings hold a soul's hidden grace,
This tale, a woven dream upon the page.
Sometimes on a forgotten shelf they rest,
Yet within, their own lives manifest.

Step into an oriental fantasy realm inhabited by humans, beastlings, and majestic dragons. After a golden age spanning thousands of years, the bustling metropolis of Bluescales now faces tumultuous times. Here, magic and technology coexist, complicating social governance. To further stir the pot, the secret art behind ancient miracles—presumed long lost—is resurfacing. Beneath the city's clamor, a storm unlike any other is quietly brewing...

A long, long time ago, there lived a wolf, a fox, and a snake. But these weren’t just your ordinary wild animals. They were very patient and wise, and after a lot of hard work, they gained human form and became "beastlings", as they liked to call themselves. Now, let's meet our heroes:

- Triratna, the wolf-turned-monk, is able to see and sever karma lines—the threads of cause and effect tying everything together.

- Taiqing, the fox-turned-priest, is an expert of transmuting substances and other Daoist spells.

- Transia, the snake-turned-artist, is gifted with the ability to enter paintings and alter people's appearances.

Lead three heroes, each with a unique ability, through a maze of curious events and bust the conspiracy behind it all. As you progress, three separate storylines will flow into one. Be the all-seeing eye and the guiding hand, switch perspectives, combine their powers to overcome obstacles and solve mysteries. The fate of Bluescales is depending on you.

I wasn't expecting this game to be as good as it actually is. I got it because I thought the artstyle was cute and I love mystery games, and while the art style is cute and it has some pretty good mysteries, the worldbuilding was what really took me by surprise. Every new story segment introduced some new tidbit about the world, and it's pretty interesting (honestly hope the developers do some kind of sequel/prequel some day). The characters as well are all pretty likeable, and I was pretty invested in most of them by the end of the game. The localization, while having some minor errors thankfully isn't the mess that some CN translations tend to be. It was lovingly translated by someone hailing from the Ace Attorney school of localization, with my favorites being brothers Toma and Pota To, with father Risso. Even background text was translated into English! Humor has been translated pretty well too, with some characters throwing out puns like no tomorrow. Also, this game is pretty much "Chekov's Gun: The Game" the amount of times that something early on ended up being important for a twist later on. It's really impressive writing. The twists were surprising but never felt forced,…

I bought it because it's furry mostly and it didn't disappoint. The art is cool and the characters are charming. The story was pretty good as well. It had some cool twists which I did not expect. I could sense that a lot of effort went into this game, it seemed really detailed. Definitely among the best furry VNs I have played.

Amazing story. Threefold Recital is so wittily written that I sometimes wonder if the writer is truly a genius or must be utterly deranged. Although shaped as mainly a detective puzzle game, Threefold Recital doesn't really penalize you for missing the details or failing the puzzles. It also tries its best to incorporate all kinds of little games and uses all the best narrative tricks to keep all kinds of audiences happy, although sometimes falls short to its ambition and misses on UX details that it should have done better (not the story itself though, the story is once again VERY good). Playing the game in English while its natively written in Chinese is always a bit of a risky move, but I can guarantee you that it is translated with heart, getting all the puns and jokes through, which is extremely hard to see in current world filled with AIs. I am looking extremely forward to the studio's next work.
