Lords of the Realm

I have played many games in this genre, and since the reviews were very positive, I decided to give this one a try. However, after seven hours, I am still struggling to understand how the game actually works. There is not even a tutorial in this reworked version, so I had to manually search online for the official manual and booklets. Even after reading all the materials included with the physical version of the game, the gameplay still feels confusing. The enemy AI seems to build castles, train armies and conquer territories with ease, while I cannot even build my first castle because resources are gathered far too slowly. This happens even with 150 workers assigned to stone and timber, and I cannot barely move peasants away from the grain fields if I want to survive the following year. Notice that I was playing in Novice mode for both economic and military. There also seems to be a bottleneck once the population starts growing. Even when I add more fields to supply the grain needed to sustain everyone, the food supply still cannot keep up. I understand that some fields need to rest and be rotated before they become barren, and I have been doing that, but it still does not produ…

Still enjoyable so many years later.

One of my favourite games from childhood, Colonization is exactly what it sounds like. Set your political correctness asside as you tear your way through indigenous culture after indigenous culture in a rapacious need to fuel your war economy and expansionist policies till you can finally thumb your nose up at AUTHORITAHH!!!! and declare independance from the KING.

There's a reason it was only 69 cents (before taxes). Just go play Medieval 2 Total War instead and mod it and thank me later. This was the Boomer's version of Total War before good games were invented.

Took 7 hours to actually figure out this point and click game. It becomes fun and addicting once you do figure it out. The most confusing part is the world map on opening. Those side buttons are actually just toggles for map icons and not important. The color you chose on your crest is your flag color and you only get one piece of land at the start. You can only really choose your land in the begining on the world map nothing really going on elsewhere. clicking your land on the local map gives you management controls. Your Coat of Arms is the end turn button and the "i" button is the main pause menu with options placed in a weird spot. This game plays more like a board game mixed with a bit of town survival management mechanic. Low taxes, balanced resources means more people and happiness. People seem to be the main currency in this game. More people means better resources but too many people causes hunger and death to your population. Armies and castles tend to be late game mechanics. Too soon and it can cause problems. It also seems if you figure out a good way to get ahead, the AI puts you in your place. I found a good balance playthrough so the game dished me a ton of bad weath…

This game is super old, yes. But it will take FOREVER to finish. Great game though.
