8-Bit Adventures 1: The Forgotten Journey Remastered Edition

Combat is painfully slow and dull. This is the barest-bones game I've played in a long time.

O the scale of JRPG mechanics this would land below Final Fantasy 1. It felt more like a walking simulator than a JRPG, at no point in the game I was making any tactical decision more advanced than red beats green, green beats blue blue beats red. That said the story and the characters kept me playing till the end, it was nothing original but felt charming. The ending was meh, but writing a good ending is hard. In summary i had good and relaxing time playing this. Recommended at discount.

Review Time! I do recommend this game. I love old Final Fantasy inspired games. And I like how the classes are clearly defined and color coded so you know exactly what is for each class. Now just because I have certain troubles with a game, I not one to give a bad review. With that being said I hate using a controller for this game, half of my controller just didn't work. And for this style game I need to use the D-pad but I was forced to use the analogue stick. So I just had to use the keyboard for this game. =( But other than that I'm loving this game. And I quite enjoy the music. Oh yeah I love the fact that it doesn't ask me if I want to save over my old game every time I want to save! And the humor at least for me has me laughing out loud.

One of the best RPG Maker titles out there. It has a unique story with well-written characters that you actually care about. Don't let the simple graphics fool you - there's real heart and craft here. A must-play for JRPG fans who appreciate a good story.

This was such a charming throwback to JRPGs from the NES and even the SNES era. It had surprising depth and it managed to capture some of the "simplicity" of the games from those eras, while reducing or eliminating a lot of the grind or tedium that those games had (ex: think Final Fantasy 1: endless walking, fights that drag on forever, hitting empty spaces after monsters are killed in combat, or dying in combat and having to *redo 30+ minutes of gameplay to get back to where you were before). You can tell the game was made with a lot of care and love, and while not perfect, highly recommended for fans of old-school JRPGs or gamers that grew up in the 80s or 90s! Minor gripes: 1) I grew to really appreciate the art style, but at the beginning I felt like some assets looked more like console "blocky" 8-bit, while others looked like assets made in MS Paint with higher detail; not bad by any means, but visually it felt like conflicting styles. 2) While they did do a really good job at reducing tedium, you should still expect to spend a lot of time walking, dealing with many random encounters and lots of fights that you can't just "fast-foward" through as if you were using an emu…

Look, if you understand that this is a love letter to NES era JRPG's with a few modern QOL and are excited by that, then this game is for you. It really put me in that nostalgic comfy mood. The combat had moments of interesting decisions but for the most part allowed me to shut off my mind and enjoy a mindless rhythm. And I mean that in the best way. The story was also fun to follow along. And it offered all of that in under 12 hours, the perfect size to get your fill without overstaying it's welcome. I highly recommend and will be getting the sequel soon.
