About At the Mountains of Madness

At the Mountains of Madness is a indie first-person horror adventure game with survival elements in which you play the role of Professor Dyer, a geologist at Miskatonic University who travelled to Antarctica in 1930 as the leader of a research expedition, in this 3D first-person horror survival adventure game. But in Antarctica disaster always lurks adventurers like a shadow. And in the most cold and desolate place on earth it is easy to find death or worse, you can find the Mountains of Madness

“I am forced into speech because men of science have refused to follow my advice without knowing why.” H.P. Lovecraft

Fight against the elements and explore ancient lands and antarctic landscapes, find your way through dark caves and unravel procedural mazes while trying to survive in a realtime 3D action adventure in search of undiscovered fossils and zones unexplored by man.
Pick and use well the items you carry on, such as food cans, wood logs, batteries, dynamite, strange things… You never know when you'll need them!
Choose if you battle againt monsters or if you become another shadow in this sci-fi labyrinth of psychological horror.

Nope, nope, nope. I suppose I should have realized there was a serious problem when I noticed that this game has been in "Early Access" for over 5 years. Of course, I didn't notice until after "trying" to play it that there hasn't been an update in 4.5 years. So I think it's a safe bet that this game has been abandoned and none of the extant bugs are going to be fixed. Which is sad, because this game has a LOT of potential. Visually, it's gorgeous. In terms of atmosphere, I think, from what I've been able to see of it, the dev team did a great job of recreating the atmosphere of Lovecraft's story. And while the game mechanics are not the best, they aren't bad. That said, however, there are some pretty major problems that make the game all but unplayable. First, the ability to walk through a fair number of rocks and sheets of ice is disconcerting. Being able to see through almost as many also creates problems. The "freezing" mechanic is kinda neat, but after a while it just gets annoying. The fact that it isn't readily apparent where you're supposed to go also gets annoying. However, the biggest issue for me is that just a short while into the game, you reach a point (or I did, at …

Utter trash, played it first time when it got into early access back in 2016. Ten years later and its still complete garbage.

This game has been LONG abandoned. Don't be fooled by the Early Access status, there isn't going to be any further development, clearly. With that said, the game itself is actually awful. It is absolutely unfinished, but it's clear that someone had a vision for this. There is some love for the lore, some decent building blocks to make a game around, however it's dead. Absolutely pass on this one.

Ok I have played the game and love it mountains of madness is my favorite Eldritch story at first I was playing the game and the way mountains of madness was like a open world game interested me then I got into the game and was making my way though the frozen abyss and it was awesome in a Eldritch way very in depth and like a rpg in a way but also very much reminded me of The Thing the movie the game has some errors small ones but if you want more people to be interested in the game take more screen shots that show off the games abyssal depth and Eldritch alien intrigue of worlds of frost.
