Myst III: Exile

This game is for: - people who loved Myst - people who like puzzle games that don't hold your hand, but still follow a logical connection between clues & solutions - fans of incredible environmental storytelling - people who love games that walk the line between the eerie and the beautiful; the whole Myst series is rife with both - fans of Brad Dourif This game is not for: - people who don't enjoy the point & click genre - people with a low patience threshold - some puzzles require sitting through somewhat long animations simply to form an understanding of how the puzzle works - people who get lost in mazes easily. the labyrinthine layouts (both horizontally and vertically) might be confusing to some players For my first time playing it in 2026, I think it's a fantastic experience, having grown up playing both Myst and Riven but not fully "getting" them until much later in life.

The controls are a bit dated by today's standards, but the story is very good with multiple endings based on choices made and worth a play through. The final puzzles are challenging enough to feel a sense of accomplishment when they are completed. All the worlds are nicely done, but Edanna - the nature world will always be my favorite. The rides are also fun and a great reward for solving the puzzles for each age. For those new to this game do keep notes on the puzzles and any journals that are given or found by the player. Also remember things found when exploring as they will help solve puzzles later. Often something seen earlier even on a different world will be needed to solve a puzzle later on another world. This game doesn't hand hold for solving puzzles. If you are still stuck there are a few decent guides and walkthroughs out there that can help. Also for those used to 360 free movement this game allows you to look around a bit but movement is always point and click style. Hopefully one day this one will get remade with new movement like Myst and Riven was, but if it is hopefully Cyan keeps the old live acting videos in the original and only remasters them, not replaces th…

definitely a Myst game and in 2026 it's in want of a graphical update. I needed a couple hints, but I enjoyed it.

Overall this one is pretty good. The puzzles are fairly abstract, but if you are working your way through the Myst series it is way easier than Riven, but harder than Myst. Ultimately I solved 99% of the game without looking anything up, and the one part where I got stuck and had to look up what to do was because I couldn't see a pathway to walk down, probably because the graphics are so blurry. Some of the puzzles are a bit annoying because they are more about trial and error than using any kind of logic, but it's mostly satisfying.
