Ys SEVEN

A deeply tedious game. Decent up to the half way point, then forces a massive amount of backtracking while not bothering to level up the enemies. Bosses are all beaten first time with zero challenge & are basically like figthing regular enemies except the fight takes longer. The exception is the last boss which is suddenly a massive difficulty spike. But... the last boss is finally, finally where it starts to become fun. Like Origins or Celceta, for the first time in the game you are actually required to think about boss patterns and think up strategies to deal with them. Its absolutely baffling to me that the last boss is finally when they decide to make using the "guard" mechanic more or less necessary to beating the boss. Too little too late. One of the worst Ys games.

The first Ys game to have the 3 party member mechanics and it shows in how rough (not bad) they handle it, like when swapping party members they do not just swap the currently controlled character like they do in the games after this, so if you swap to someone stuck at the start of the zone then the camera moves to them, but i do like how attack skills are tied to weapons, so a weapon will have a skill and by using that skill you can learn it permanently, so you always know what you are about to get and if you skip a weapon a latter weapon can have old weapon skills. The game has perfect guard but no flash dodge and it works like all the other versions except it only guarantees a critical hit for one attack unlike the whole duration but invulnerability still last the whole time. Most of the characters are neat and all feel unique to play but that's the same for each game with the party mechanic and unfortunately the only game still that lets you have Dogi or Geis as party members BUT you get to have Dogi and Geis as party members! It's ok The story is excellent, but similar to other YS games I really enjoyed the previous titles like Felghana, but this game takes a different style not a huge fan of the new style, extra grindy and materials to farm for now...

This game is beautiful

I mean its Ys, what cant i say if youve been a fan since book 1 an 2. Theres nothing for me to say but get ready for VII another great game in the series. If youre new to Ys series youre gonna love it. I recomend starting at book 1 an 2 or chronicles, but thats the good part cause you dont have too to enjoy this series. Ive been playing Ys since the Turbografx CD/ TurboDuo came out. late 80s early 90s. Another great game in the series
