About Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters

✦ AI summary

Lead the elite Grey Knights against the galaxy-devouring Bloom in this brutal turn-based tactical RPG set in Warhammer 40K's grim far future. Customize your squad of psychic super-soldiers, manage your stronghold across multiple worlds, and execute enemies with precision targeting and cinematic melee brutality as the cosmic plague mutates everything in its path.

Lead humanity’s greatest weapon, the Grey Knights, against the corrupting forces of Chaos in this brutal and fast-paced turn-based tactical RPG. Root out and put a stop to an insidious plot to infect the galaxy with the Bloom, an intergalactic cosmic plague capable of rotting worlds into oblivion.

Armoured in faith, shielded by devotion, the Grey Knights’ very existence is rooted in mystery, enforced with mind-wipes and executions. Experience life in the 41st millennium and follow the journey of these elite warriors in a narrative penned by acclaimed Black Library author, Aaron Dembski-Bowden.

SHAPE THE FATE OF THE GALAXY

Upgrade your base of operations, build new facilities, conduct research into arcane mysteries and engage in combat missions across multiple worlds to purge the spread. The Bloom corrupts without prejudice; your choices will affect which planets succumb… and survive.

FORGE YOUR CHAMPIONS

Command your own, personalised squad of Grey Knights; learn a range of diverse skills and psychic abilities, unlock powerful equipment and specialise your champions into four unique standard and advanced classes. Each of your warriors can be customised with voice, armour and facial options to make them your own.

PRECISION TARGETING

Grey Knights are an elite chapter of Space Marines and are not in the business of making mistakes or missing their shots. The Precision Targeting system puts you in control of your tactical decisions, allowing you to plan your strategy with confidence, whether by taking shots from afar with sure-fire accuracy, or dismembering and dismantling a foe in brutal melee combat!

MUTATING MONSTROSITIES AND THEIR MINIONS

As the Bloom corrupts worlds, environments will evolve and erupt with deadly hazards and minions, cultists and the infamous Death Guard Chaos Space Marines will mutate with pestilent boons and blessings, giving them new attacks and abilities. Adapt your tried and tested strategies to overcome unsurmountable odds against towering foes and their servants.

CINEMATIC SLAUGHTER

Charge headlong into fast-paced tactical combat. Eviscerate and execute enemies up close in gory displays of prowess, or strike from afar with blessed bullets and powerful psychic energies. Use the dynamically destructible environment to your advantage by tearing down pillars or slamming vehicles into unsuspecting enemies.

Mission Variety and map design is a chore, Turn-based walking simulator. This is one of those turn-based games that just makes me want to go back to playing an RTS. The difficulty is insane even on the easiest difficulty, possibly due to the abysmal UI and the plethora of unexplained mechanics. My save file is soft-locked due to me starting a mission I cannot complete. The idiotic autosave Overrides your main save file, so now I am stuck repeating the mission for eternity and failing. I am on the easiest difficulty. Do not buy this.

Very solid WH40K game and one of the better turn-based/xcom games out there. Developers clearly treat this IP with love and genre with great respect. Being an unashamed xenos lover myself, I have no positive predisposition for Grey Knights, or Adeptus Astartes in general. Yet, this game managed to sell me on this Chapter and got me invested in the story. Even Chaos as a main antagonist, is not the most exciting choice for my money. Still, it won me over through the variety of enemy types, gameplay mechanics they introduce and all the random visual deformities enemies get. Visually, esthetically and design-wise, the game is very well done. Animations for the main story cast characters do look funky at a glance, a bit too pose-to-pose. Though along with very high quality models and textures, this animation has a pleasant stop-motion feel to it. I ended up finding it very charming. Great writing and voice acting really ties it all together. The overall plot of the game is very simple, there is chaos, it needs to be stopped. However the mechanic of the chaos spreading and the threat for the sector growing is neatly tied to the natural scale of difficulty of the game. Enemy units bec…

Cannot reccommend this game. Forces unwinnable unexpected boss battles on the player that end 50 hour playthroughs that you could of won if it was expected. Almost need to 50 save slots so you can roll back progress. Cant imagine how the devs thought this was okay. Please avoid.

My son gifted me this game knowing that I am a fan of both XCOM and Warhammer 40K. I tried to get into this game but I found the UI/UX to be overwrought, busy, and generally hard to navigate. I think I had a harder time navigating the menus and figuring what I was supposed to do than actually playing the missions. The UI/UX succeeds in bringing the aesthetic of the 40K universe to the player, but utterly fails when making the menus readily understandable and navigable. I didn't get very far into the game, but from what I've heard from others there are two main issues with the game: way too busy UI/UX and hard to overcome difficulty spikes later in the game. Personally, I'm better at the tactical layer than I am the strategy layer. I have long asked and pushed for either making the strategy layers optional, or making an option to make them easier than the tactical layer. I understand it's easier to treat them globally when making the game, but they are different skills and not always one that's easy for me to manage. I hope there is a future DLC or content patch that addresses these issues. Like having an optional alternative UI/UX system and a way to blunt the difficulty in the…

Its good but you'll get team wiped (and lose whole campaign saves if youre playing grand master mode) several times before you understand how the missions are going to go, also the difficulty spike is insane. Basically some missions are very hard to prepare to because you can't possibly expect what is coming (i guess that is proposital to create difficulty, but its weird) and also when the [Redacted by Ordo Hereticus] spreads, its very hard to contain and as you are unable to be in more than one place at a time you are basically bound to lose eventually if you don't speedily mow down everything...Some *things* that are part of the campaign happen and keep happening again and again and again, if you dont have good teams you lose. Its basically a time gated game without literal time gated aspects, in theory you can play around all you want, but after some progress in the main story if you linger things become harder, both inside missions and on the map, so youre encouraged to rush throught the story, which i think kinda sucks. Wanted to play the dlc's but people say they're kinda bad and i think they're a little pricey for what they are... Also achievements are kinda crazy (in the ba…
