About Fantasy Kommander: Eukarion Wars

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3144910/Homini_et_Armi_The_End_of_Knights/

Fantasy Kommander invites you to embark on a strategic journey through a medieval-inspired isometric realm of fantasy, with 90s style pre-rendered graphics for an immersive retro experience. Set on a hex map filled with diverse terrains, this operational-level strategy game presents a real high quality window into games of the past, with challenging battles, engaging character voice overs, and a competent AI opponent.

Battles take place on a hexagonal map and are regulated by our complex proprietary tactical simulation system "Archangelus" which for each clash considers multiple factors such as terrain, ZOCs (zones of control), morale, orientation, the combat fronts, the offensive and defensive power and the specific typology of each unit.

At the beginning of each battle you can deploy units that each represent hundreds of soldiers, but there are also unique units such as heroes and dragons. Each unit is similar in structure to a classic role-playing game character, with distinct characteristics and special abilities that can be improved by levelling them up thanks to the accumulation of experience points on the battlefield.

The plot unfolds within four compelling campaigns narratively linked to each other. In the role of a valiant general who finds himself in the midst of a devastating war that has broken out for unknown reasons, you will receive messages from Emperor Karl and the Grand Council of Mages that will guide you to discover a mysterious enemy plotting in the shadows.

Alongside you stand three mighty Heroes representing Humans, Elves, and Dwarves, ready to assist in your trials, challenges, and triumphs. Explore the great Empire of Adamantia, invaded by the forces of Kaos, and venture into mysterious uncharted lands as you seek victory and freedom.

Each campaign consists of multiple battles with primary and secondary objectives of escalating difficulty. As you progress, you'll unlock victory levels determined by completing objectives within time limits, with "Epic" Victories making you richer and more famed. Achieving higher levels rewards you with gold, fame points, and various benefits such as unit upgrades, resurrection of fallen troops, new powers, and expanded recruitment options. Visit the encampment after battles to level up your army.

Lead your troops strategically by deploying them before each battle, considering facing and movement options. Engage in melee and ranged combat, utilizing spells and missile weapons to gain an edge. With 32 special abilities, 32 spells, and six different races, the tactical possibilities are vast.

Remember that you can only move one unit at a time, and combat follows a strictly symmetrical turn-based approach. Adapt to these constraints and overcome the scripted challenges that lie ahead.

Features:
  • Complex Battle System incorporating various tactical factors
  • Immersive storyline inspired by European medieval traditions and fantasy narratives
  • Four single-player campaigns with 25 epic battles, heroes, enemy generals, and side quests
  • Over 70 unique units to recruit, upgrade, and unleash upon the battlefield
  • RPG-like units with customizable stats and abilities
  • Powerful spells to wield and hordes of enemies to face

This game achieves what it wants. As a tactical turn based combat focused game in a fantasy world it has very little against it. I would recommend this game to anyone in the market for that type of fun. I got it on sale and I'm happy I did, but if you are the type to really dig into tactical battles, then by all means get this game at full price. I have only played into the first non-tutorial campaign so its possible there is more depth as I progress. Assuming there is not though let me make a couple suggestions. There are openings for more content to be added pretty seamlessly. First off and easiest of all I think there should be more lore. Not in your face story content just a way to examine the world or worlds we are fighting in if the player so chooses. Maybe lost scrolls or proclamations. Next is the options you have when not fighting. You can recruit, level up your units, and resurrect dead units from the cemetery. Pretty basic stuff but again in works well for what the game is offering. I just think there is room to offer more. Maybe side quests (battles) to get upgraded weapons or even units. Then be able to hire a smithy or armorer. This stuff can so easily just se…

This is a turn based fantasy game quite similar to Elven Legacy series. It is fully voiced and the story is exceptional. The only downside is that the game is short(for veterans). Around 20 hours to finish it. If compared price/quality this is a must buy it worth it even on full price. You can also wait and get it under half price if you want to. Game is not for beginners you will need to win epic to be able to reach end, also consider doing the secondary quests before doing the main if not you will loose huge opportunity for unit level up. Another down is the interface it is ancient, personally I don't mind however it is kinda hard to use. Once you learn to you can load over and over until you get desired outcome. The difficulty picks up at dwarf campaign and in last one consider using freeze on dragons in river or lava(for defense reduction).

I almost liked Fantasy Kommander: Eukarion Wars. The tactical combat is good, and the dated, clunky interface did not bother me much. What killed the game for me was the victory system. I do not mind a hard turn limit as a mission condition. If I have 15 turns to take an objective and otherwise I lose, fine. I may dislike it, but it is still a tactical constraint. What I hate is being told that I won, but not well enough because I took too many turns, especially when the better victory also gives more experience and money. At that point the game stops being a tactical wargame and becomes a speed optimisation puzzle. Instead of thinking about the best tactical way to win the battle, I am thinking about how to shave off another turn, whether I should reload a bad roll, whether a different sequence of moves gets me the top result. It pushes me straight into save/reload, and that becomes tedious very quickly. The annoying part is that the tactical game underneath is actually good. But the scoring system actively gets in the way of enjoying it.

It's a close call for me, There's a lot I like, but I have some major problems. 1) lack of good tooltips/documentation, so I am often confused and just need to sus out what is going on. I still don't actually know what the attack/defense or damage/armor stats do. I can only guess 2) maps often having events halfway through that result in very bad things happening immedietely, so the design really says you have to restart and try again. worst one was on enemy turn 1 (before I did anything) a powerful unit spawned, and instantly caused a scenario loss. A completely unforseeable game over that felt very unfair and unfun. 3) Units you get later are just very slightly better versions of earlier units, and it isn't possible to upgrade your old guys, so the "right" choice is to constantly be selling your guys you've spent the last 5 fights leveling up to take the small downgrade to get a new level 1 guy of the higher tier, and I find this frustrating 4) the English/localization isn't great 5) the UI is poorly implemented, stuff is zoomed in too far, requires too much scrolling, and wastes a bunch of space around the edges

IDK. I've played dozens of games like this. I just wished the campaigns had some wiggle room. I end up in the situation where you complete the mission with all honors or not at all. Having all honors, so maxed on team and money. I start the mission with harpies. and I just run out of men after stopping the ritual. Maybe if there was random fight on top of the campaign. I want to recommend this game but I can't. Oh on bugs. Switching to windowed screen has odd behaviors, and I often have to restart the mission I'm on. Given the nature of the game. I find myself wanting to play it while in queue for a pvp game. So windowed is a must.
