About Septerra Core

✦ AI summary

Explore seven orbiting continents around a massive biocomputer in this epic fantasy RPG where you lead Maya and up to nine party members through over 200 locations to prevent a global catastrophe foretold in an ancient prophecy. The game combines turn-based and real-time combat strategy with a branching story featuring 140+ characters, voiced dialogue, and a world torn by war and intrigue where every choice matters.

At the very heart of Septerra lies the Core, a huge Biocomputer. Seven continents at different elevations, each with its own unique people and culture, orbit around the Core.
According to an ancient prophecy, Septerra's continents will one day converge and join in orbit together on one level - this is the Legacy of Marduk, the Creator's son. The Chosen, fanatical believers in the supremacy of their own wisdom and technology, impatiently try to force the issue - causing a global catastrophe which threatens the lives of all Septerreans.

Meanwhile, amongst the Junkers, a young woman named Maya gets caught up in the developing maelstrom and soon finds herself confronted by seemingly insurmountable problems. Without help she stands no chance of fulfilling the Prophesy before Septerra perishes. But whom can she trust in a world torn by war and treacherous intrigue - a world on the edge of the abyss?

✦ AI summary

Septerra Core is a classic science-fantasy JRPG with an ambitious world, compelling story, and memorable cast of characters that resonates strongly with players across generations. Players consistently praise its unique setting, engaging narrative, and character depth, though they note that exploration can feel linear and random encounters occur frequently during gameplay. Most RPG fans recommend it as a worthwhile experience, particularly for those willing to use mods for modern resolution scaling and quality-of-life improvements to enhance the experience.

Rating: 8.7/10 Septerra Core is a classic role-playing game that combines traditional JRPG-inspired mechanics with a unique science-fantasy world and a memorable story. Players follow Maya, a young warrior who becomes involved in a much larger conflict threatening the world of Septerra. The game features exploration, turn-based combat, character progression, and a large cast of companions, creating an adventure filled with mystery, political conflicts, and futuristic fantasy elements. The game's greatest strength is its ambitious world-building and storytelling. Septerra Core creates a fascinating universe with multiple cultures, different civilizations, and a surprisingly deep narrative for its time. The diverse party members each bring their own personalities and backgrounds, making the journey feel more personal. The combat system offers strategic choices, while character development and equipment management provide a satisfying sense of progression. The game's unique blend of fantasy and science fiction helps it stand out from many other RPGs of the era. Although the game shows its age through its interface, pacing, and occasional difficulty spikes, these issues do not take …

Love this game. Maybe a bit of bias from nostalgia playing this game growing up. They could and should make a movie with this, I feel like there is enough here to make a compelling story and visually stunning. This is a fun game overall, with a great story line involved. The cutscenes from this to me were ahead of their time and add to the enjoyability of this game. I will concede that the exploration is linear and straight forward, but usually involves a puzzle or two to advance throughout the levels. The combat is a a simple turn based system, and a bit repetitive in some areas, as it seems like every 10-15 steps you get into a battle. That said, as you progress the story you unlock quite a few characters to play and stack your team for the desired style you like.

The first game I ever played on my first PC back in the day. It still keeps up as one of the most unique RPGs when in comes to story, pacing, characters and world overall. You can use a few mods to bring it a bit more up to modern standards resolution wise and a few QoL changes and it's still an amazing game today. Easy recommendation for all RPG lovers.

I first played when it came out and then again now in 2026. It plays similar to Final Fantasy Tactics and has a charm that has me wondering why no one ever picked up this IP. Shame. It's really worth a play if you don't mind that the graphics are dated. I used lossless scaling the app on steam to play through and a few mods for bug fixing on my second playthrough. I just wish that the ending would not have been quite like it was.
