About Grim Fandango Remastered

✦ AI summary

You play as Manny Calavera, a charming travel agent for the dead caught in a conspiracy that could damn his soul, navigating four years through the Land of the Dead with puzzle-solving and witty dialogue. This remastered classic blends film noir storytelling with Mexican folklore in one of adventure gaming's most beloved masterpieces, now with enhanced visuals, orchestral score, and developer commentary.

Something's rotten in the land of the dead, and you're being played for a sucker. Meet Manny Calavera, travel agent at the Department of Death. He sells luxury packages to souls on their four-year journey to eternal rest. But there's trouble in paradise. Help Manny untangle himself from a conspiracy that threatens his very salvation.

One of the most acclaimed adventure games of all time is now back, better than ever. ✦ AI summary

Grim Fandango Remastered is praised for its witty writing, memorable characters, and strong atmosphere that capture the charm of a classic '90s point-and-click adventure. However, players frequently report frustration with puzzle design, particularly difficulty spotting interactive elements in cluttered backgrounds that blend together, and some mention technical issues like screen freezing in the remastered version. Most players feel the game is worth experiencing despite these flaws, though using a walkthrough is common.

Great game with flaws. I think the writing and the atmosphere is great, characters have dialogue that is witty and funny, they feel interesting to talk to, so many NPC's feels like they give you their perspective of the underworld and I think it's easily the games best aspect. I have a bit of a hard time giving this a recommendation since I had to use a walkthrough at least 5 times on this, there was only 2 maybe 3 puzzles I had to look up because I was stupid but most of the time I had to look for help because I simply didn't see an item or part of the background you can interact with. It really hurt the experience of the game for me, I wish I didn't have to look up what to do just because I didn't scan my mouse on one part of the screen that looks like everything else. Your experience may wary, but I did run into a few soft locks where the game would just break from a normal interaction for no reason, or how the wheelbarrow you need to move just completely erased me from existence, these seem like remaster issues rather than the game itself, I could be wrong Idk. Overall I think the game is good but has some rough spots.

Grim Fandango is one of the most reputable point-and-clickers from the ‘90s that still looks and sounds quite nice thanks to its 2015 remaster. As a bonus you can swap between the classic and remastered look at-will with the press of a button. I noticed quite quickly after starting, that at its core Grim Fandango truly is a point-and-click adventure game from the ‘90s, as starting from the first chapter the puzzles can be a bit aggravating to figure out. One of the biggest problems was spotting all the small things that you are even able to click, as it’s occasionally very hard to notice that for example on a big grey object there’s a small black area that’s interactable alongside the larger more obvious one. This made solving some puzzles extremely frustrating, as you can’t even brute force or experiment if you’re not aware of the things you could try. There was also no way to highlight interactable objects in the environment. Another feature that made gameplay slightly tedious was how traversing the area while pondering on the puzzle solutions forced you to always go through the long and unskippable transitional cutscenes – which gets old fast. You also constantly have to b…

This is my favorite game, hands down. It's phenomenal in so many ways! Unfortunately, this remastered version has one HUGE game-breaking bug: after playing for a bit, the screen freezes and controls completely stop responding. Even if the pause menu and loading screens work fine, resuming the game puts you right back on the frozen screen. I still highly recommend the game itself—the story, character design, and overall experience are top-tier. DEFINITELY play it, but try to hunt down the original, non-remastered version if you can.
